Maria Forte has worked in the music industry for

three decades. She began at Virgin Music (Publishers) Ltd in the late seventies in an

administrative capacity where she remained for 14

years, the last five years of this period as General

Manager, until the sale of Virgin to the EMI Group.

She worked with many contemporary bands/writers

including The Police; The Human League; Culture

Club; Soul II Soul; The Clash; Stereo MC’s and

The Prodigy. Thereafter she spent four years at EMI

Music Publishing running the copyright department as

well as establishing the sampling department.

She continued to work with the Virgin Music

catalogue as well as the rich and varied

catalogue belonging to EMI.


In 1996, she was a co-founder and Director of

Commercial Affairs at V2 Music Publishing Ltd.,

Richard Branson’s second venture into music

publishing. She continued to work with The Prodigy, although still administered by EMI Music Publishing

–working closely with Liam Howlett to ensure the

successful clearance of all samples on their multi

platinum selling album “Fat Of The Land”. She signed,

amongst others, Fluke and Boy George to the music

publishing entity.


She left V2 in 2000 to join MusicState as Chief

Operating Officer. MusicState offered an online source

of pre-cleared commercial music for synchronization.

She defined and oversaw the launch of this website,

creating a template and accompanying systems

through which it could operate.


She then joined Sanctuary Music Publishing in 2002

as Director of Commercial Business where her role

included the acquisition of rights, catalogue or writer,

as well as operational responsibilities for the

company. She worked with a catalogue that included

Bert Jansch; Axl Rose; Wasp and Spiritual Beggars.


In July 2006 she created Maria Forte Music

Services Ltd. Her clients include Warner Chappell

Music, for the implementation of their pan European

Digital Rights Initiative; Amnesty International Ltd as

Music Clearance Consultant working on their fund

raiser “The Secret Policeman’s Ball”; She provides

business management support to David Gedge of the

highly respected Indie Rock outfit The Wedding Present, and to his label Scopitones. She has

recently worked with Soul II Soul co-ordinating

a compilation album for Trojan Records “Jazzie B

presents School Days”. She is working with

Radiohead (through her Warner Chappell

consultancy) on their commercial digital release of

the album “In Rainbows” and related releases

including the digital video release of Radiohead

“In Rainbows From The Basement” and

the acclaimed digital single campaign for “Nude”.
